Continuing Teacher and Leader Education
Obridge Academy is a New York State Education Department approved sponsor of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE). Our sponsor number is 23554.
CTLE activities at Obridge are carefully designed to meet both the rigors expected by NYSED and the interests of the teachers we serve. CTLE activities are offered on an ongoing basis, and new programs are added regularly.
As of the 2016/2017 academic year, teachers holding professional certificates in Classroom Teaching or Educational Leadership are required to complete 100 hours of CTLE during each 5-year registration period. Those with permanent certification are not required to complete 100 hours each 5-year period.
Bilingual and ESL teachers must complete at least 50% of the required 100 CTLE hours in language acquisition, with an emphasis on co-teaching strategies.
Teachers holding all other certificates must complete at least 15% of the required hours in language acquisition that focuses specifically on the needs of ELL learners, particularly in regards to best practices for co-teaching strategies.
Our blended model CTLE courses are designed with flexibility in mind. Teachers can enjoy the traditional experience of interacting on-site with instructors and peers, while also having the freedom to complete additional clock hours online. Usually 40% of the CTLE hours are conducted on-site while 60% can be done online.
