Lesson Plan Modification for English Language Learners
Teachers and administrators are invited to bring lessons and materials from any subject area to modify for the needs of English Language Learners (ELLs). Educators will modify their lessons and receive input from workshop participants and the facilitator after discussing a menu of usable strategies. Many of these strategies utilize Best Practices; however, ELL Best Practices (ELLBP) should be considered when adapting lessons for ELLs. The targeted ELLBP for this session are focusing on vocabulary development, making input comprehensible, activating prior knowledge, building background knowledge, and incorporating thematic instruction. Specific strategies offered in this session include vocabulary journals, semantic mapping, and scaffolding.
