MANDARIN CHINESE—汉语世界IS SPOKEN BY 1 BILLION PEOPLE IN THE WORLD’S

2ND LARGEST ECONOMY

Knowing Chinese will set you apart when you apply to college. Knowing Chinese will also make you more competitive in the job world when you graduate from college.

You will be immersed—in an air-conditioned room—in Chinese for four hours every day, with an additional hour of Chinese art, music, history and culture. By the end of the course, you will be able to speak and write Chinese at the Novice Mid level. Wow!

You can earn half a high school credit through this four-week exploration into Chinese at Friends Academy, from 7 July to 1 August. Classes are from 9:30 to 4:00.

If you wish, you can continue your studies online the regular school year.

At the end of the full credit course you will be at the Novice High level, on to the ACTFL scale. Both the summer institute and regular year study are offered by Obridge Academy, a virtual 6-12 school registered in Florida, with offices in New York.

You might even be able to appear in a movie about people learning Chinese.

We will also present a lecture and a film in the evening in the third week of study. In case we forgot to tell you, you also have the option to study a Chinese martial art at the end of the day.

In addition to the other exciting activities you will make a group presentation in a Project Based Learning (PBL) format. You can invite anyone you wish, whether they know Chinese or not.

Your teachers are native speakers with formal training and certification in the United States.
